Marylin Silverman
Market Research, Strategic Planning

Marylin excels at providing the current, relevant research and strategic guidance that is essential to the development of sound retail business strategies. With more than 25 years of experience in market research and strategic marketplace planning, she is an expert at designing, conducting and interpreting consumer lifestyle studies.

Marylin’s accomplishments include:

  • Building a knowledge management practice for the Bates Worldwide advertising network, capturing and integrating the expertise and know-how of the Bates network to enhance the business value of information
  • Guiding the marketing director of a growing specialty retailer in setting up a marketing department, creating marketing plans, and coaching staff on strategic issues
  • Developing on ongoing teen panel to provide up-to-date information about the teen experience
  • Designing and executing a major subscriber study for New York’s Metropolitan Opera
  • Designing and executing a worldwide attitude and lifestyle study
    conducted in 19 countries
  • Working with the Board of Directors of Columbia University Medical Center “Women at Risk” high risk breast cancer organization to create a strategic plan

Marylin is a founder and partner of Generation M, helping clients build marketing strategies for serving adults in the 50+ age group. She served previously as Executive Vice President & Chief Knowledge Management Officer and EVP & Director of Strategic Planning and Research for Bates Worldwide. Prior to these roles, she was SVP & Associate Research Director for Backer & Spielvogel. Marylin also served as an advertising executive with Ogilvy & Mather, Foote Cone & Belding, and Compton. She has authored articles for a number of marketing publications and is an active participant in marketing and research organizations.
